Confident Queen activities for #WorldBookDay

On world book day, I personally feel children should dress up  as character that reflect our diverse community, and we can do that by also making sure the books children read reflect this. Raising my children I remember one of my son’s coming home one day from primary school upset because he had dressed up as a character from one of the books, and a few of the children had laughed at him and said to him that he could not be the character because he was black. I must admit I was quite upset and decided to do something about it through writing my books and researching other authors.

‘Confident Queen’ is a fun loving modern day superhero who helps children to unwrap he Gift of  Confidence which is within them by using the contents of her special ‘Gift of Confidence’ toolkit which contains a creative array of items which can help to boost and maintain a child’s confidence from childhood through adulthood. Research in numerous fields including Education, Health, Psychology and Sociology, highlight the importance of confidence building in our children and young people and Confident Queen is on a mission to do just that.”

Confident Queen appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in April 2012 and was able to wow the audience with her fun outfit and got everyone singing “If you are happy and you know it clap your hands”. Since then she has delivered a lot of happiness and confidence sessions for schools and community centres!

Why I love being an author #NationalAuthorsDay

I love to read and listen to stories

Growing up as a child, I used to love listening to stories told by various family members as these stories taught me great life lessons. I used to love all the songs l that went with some of the stories. In school I loved English Literature which opened my mind to great authors. As a teenager, I fell in love with  the Mills and Boom stories about  love and romance. As I got older, I started to read all the Agatha Christie murder mystery stories  as at one time, I thought of being a detective.

Why I started to write my books for children and adults

I decided to write my ” I Can” books based on confidence building as I remember various  incidences in school, college. and work l when I was bullied and suffered from low self esteem.  I did not want my children or other children to go through the same.  I wanted to use my life experiences and things that I had been taught which helped boost my confidence to help others.

I also created my persona Confident Queen as someone who has special powers to help people unwrap their gift of confidence which is within them. Also Confident Queen is a black character as I wanted black children to also relate to my character as I felt their was not enough black characters in children’s books.

Why I started to write my books for adults

I started to write self help books for adults having recovered from a period of low self confidence and depression due to a dark period in my life when I found it hard to cope with some challenges I was going through.  These books too are based on life lessons learnt and the various techniques I used to cope with my life.

I love being an author as it has really helped me bring my ideas to life and it is wonderful to go to schools to read my stories and to get feedback from children on how they enjoy my stories..

I can still play football #booklaunch

This my 2nd children’s book is about a boy Abu who was a very keen football player since he was 3 years old, but at the age of 8 he was involved in a car accident which crushed his leg. As a result the leg had to be amputated which left him feeling very sad as he felt he could never play football again with his friends.

His hope to play football again was restored by his friend who helped him to regain his confidence with the help of the ” I Can box” given to his brother by Confident Queen – who is the Queen of teaching children how to be more confident.

PROCCEEDS OF THE BOOK

Some of the proceeds of the book will go towards supporting the Confident Children Holiday Acivity Club in Gravesend and the work of Melqosh Mission in Sierra Leone working with disabled children and families whose legs and arms where amputated during the war in Sierra Leone..

Confident Queen – Confidence Builder

I created my personna Confident Queen as a modern day superhero, who helps children and adults to build their self esteem and confidence.

I was then inspired to include Confident Queen in my  first Children’s Book  “I can blow up a balloon with the aim of using the story to teaching children aged 5-7 how to be confident and not give up when trying to do things.

Interview with New Author – Jade Freeman #worldbookday

Author Profile

Jade Freeman

Bio: I am from Cape Town, South Africa. I’ve been working as a Nursery Nurse for the past 6 years in Gravesend. I have always loved working with children, as well as, writing, so I’m just combining two of my gifts. Imam a born again Christian, and I believe that children are a gift from God.

Author’s inspiration: I love working with children and I am constantly reading books to them. I find that I am always being brought the same books to read, while the children tend to steer clear of the longwinded, boring books. I’ve been writing stories and songs since I was a child; writing for children was just a natural progression. Since the births of my nieces and nephew, I have been drawing childlike inspiration from everything around me, as I’ve started to see the world through the eyes of a child. I love to write, and I want to be able to encourage others to use their imaginations and be creative in every way possible.

How I get inspiration for my book:

I work with children, so I am always inspired by how they play, as well as, what they play with.

Type of book:

I am currently working on a children’s series, which is mainly aimed at 3-5 year olds.

My message:

I want to teach children the scruples that they need in order to survive in this crazy world. My first book is called: “Lula learns to share. ” My series is called:”Perpetua, the Pirate Princess, and her Adventures Aboard the Friend Ship.”

I am making the final touches to my book before I find a Literary Agent and Publisher, but my book should be published sometime this year. Please see my Facebook page (Jade Freeman – Author) for more details.Thank you for this opportunity to share my up and coming book.

Celebration Of Life Day

0122at_800x600_celebrationoflifeday

Celebration Of Life Day is when we take a step back and truly appreciate our children and grandchildrengrandchildren. Granted, some may do this on an everyday basis, but it’s an opportunity to look at our young ones’ lives from a different angle, think about what it is that makes them truly special, and of course, to lavish treats upon them if we so wish, be it an ice cream or a trip to Disneyland.

It can be easy to forget that our children and grandchildren are people in their own right. You’ve helped them to discover themselves over the years, but you can’t take all the credit. Their life choices are ultimately down to them; sometimes they’ll do you proud, and other times, as is the case with us all, they’ll make mistakes. So be the one who’s there to offer congratulations, or encouragement to pick themselves up when they fall. And above all else, as cheesy as it may sound, show that you love them.  https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/celebration-of-life-day/

What kind of Queen are you asked Denzil?

Confident Queen said to Denzil “Well, I’m not the kind of Queen that rules over a country. I’m the kind of Queen that rules over my own inside. When I feel sad because something hasn’t gone right, I tell myself that I am Queen on the inside – just like you are King on the inside and you can tell yourself everything you need to be confident and keep trying even when things go wrong. You see, I am the Queen of being confident on the inside”.
