Celebrating today – Business Women’s Day

Business Women’s Day celebrates the contribution that women make in the business world and focuses on ways to give women more equality.

Why I started my business
I Started my business when I became a single parent in 2003, as I wanted the flexibility of being able to attend the events my children had in school as well as earning money.

Challenges
My main challenge has been getting regular customers as well as getting customers to pay me on time. This at times has led me to major finacial challenges which included my house nearly being repossed 5 times as well as having frequent visits from the ballifs.

I felt like giving up

Their have been times when I felt like giving up as the pressure was two much, brining up two children, paying the mortage and trying to make ends meet.

How things changed for me:-
Things changed for me when I decided to meet other women and joined various networking meetings. This helped me to meet other women, learn from their experiences, support and encouragement which in the end helped me to develop my own success plan.

Changing my mindset
I wanted regular income so had to take a part time job to help, as well as apply for tax credits (UK) which helped boost my income. I also had to develop the mindset that i was offering a valuable service to my clients, and that it was ok to charge withought feeling guilty.

Confidence to start your business, social enterprise or project

Confidence to start your business, social enterprise or project

setting-up-a-soc-ent-900-x-400-621x400

Since 2009, I have been involved of setting up and running various businesses using different legal structures from sole trader, limited company and social enterprises

I have learnt so much over the years, and the journey at times had been very tough, especially on the financial front and trying to balance running the business and raising two children on my own as well as doing my charitable activities to help others and make a difference.

It is possible to set up and run a successful business or project with the right mindset, determination, dedication and support of others. Over the last few years, I have helped so many people develop their ideas and turn it into a business, charity or social enterprise and still offer them regular support and update. I myself have my own mentor and coaches who help and support me.

You can turn your life around

its-a-good-day-to-turn-your-life-around

To be satisfied with life, you need to change and adapt to changes. The good news? No one can do it for you but you. The first step is always the hardest, but with determination and the right mindset you can overcome just about anything. If you’ve had enough of how things are right now, what lies around the corner can (and will) be completely different.

bepatient

Be Patient

Remember your current circumstance did not manifest overnight. There are years of thoughts feelings and actions behind what has been in place in your life, so be patient as you work to turn it all around.

Be inspired by others

Reading stories by other people who have turned their life around through hard work talent grit and good choices encourages us to realise that it’s possible to overcome just about anything, from parents passing away, to extreme poverty, and more

Oprah Winfrey turned a life of hardship into inspiration for a multi-billion-dollar empire

Oprah spent the first six years of her life living with her grandmother wearing dresses made out of potato sacks. After being molested by two members of her family and a family friend, she ran away from home at age 13. At 14, her newborn child died shortly after he was born. She went back to live with her mother, but it wasn’t until her mother sent her to live with her father that she turned her life around.

She got a full scholarship to college, won a beauty pageant —where she was discovered by a radio station — and the rest is history. The Oprah name became an empire, and according to Forbes she is worth $2.7 billion.

Do-Won-Chang-

Do Won Chang worked three jobs to make ends meet before starting Forever 21

Do Won Chang and his wife, Jin Sook, moved to America from Korea in 1981. When they first arrived, Do Won was forced to work three jobs at the same time to support them, as a janitor, a gas station attendant, and in a coffee shop. Eventually, they were able to open their first clothing store in 1984.

That one store grew into Forever 21, which pioneered fast fashion and is now a multi-national, 480 store empire that generates around $3 billion in sales a year. It’s a family business, with the couple’s daughters Linda and Esther helping to run the company.

Nominated for Sage One Accounts Competition

Thanks to Tanya Stephens for nominating me for the Sage One Accounts Competition.

Message from Sage “To celebrate the launch of Sage One Accounts Extra we are offering you the chance to say
thank you’ to the person or people who helped you most with your business.”
http://uk.sageone.com/plus-one/?id=108

Why I nominated Genny – By Tanya Stephens on 3/12/213D
Genny J, aka Confident Queen, has been a real inspiration to me. Genny has demonstrated that you can overcome adversity to get your own business off the ground and she has been a great source of support.

Genny put me in touch with a business coach who initially helped me to explore my dreams and ideas and then, thanks to advice from Genny, I was able to secure funding for my start up costs. Genny loves to help other people promote their businesses and goes out of her way to spread the word within the community and her can-do attitude has encouraged me to look past obstacles that I might otherwise have stumbled over. Her ability to increase confidence in other people has made a real difference to me and it is largely because of her that my dream has now become a reality. Thank you Genny!
