Creating your happy place

Right now, you may like me, you may feel a bit overwhelmed at times with all the  different stories and negative news  around and the uncertainties of life. It is during these times that we need to create our won happy place in our homes and using our imagination and all our senses we can spend time their to pause, unwind, relax and take in those feel good hormones.

I have created my own happy space my getting the backdrop of a beach scene, and I also put one of those sofas that can also be a bed. I then lie on my chair, with some lovely relaxing music in the background, as I listen and imagine myself having a wonderful time in the Island.

My Happy Outdoor place

Our Local Promenade –  When I go to our local promenade, I feel very relaxed as I can sit down, watch the boats go by and as I watch the river,  I spend time imagine myself on a boat going on a cruise to different parts of the world where I meet new people, have new experiences and just have fun. I can also feed the ducks, and make new friends as most times people will just come and sit next to me and start to chat.

I love spending time meditating by focusing on the waterfall and taking in the sounds it makes, as this helps to clear my mind,

  1. A small area in your bedroom
  2. In your garden

How to be a Happiness Spreader.


Why I became a happiness spreader

Their was a time in my life when i lost my zeal for life as a result of my divorce and at about the same time I was made redundant, I had so much debts and was finding it  hard to cope as a single parent. Even though I had friends and  families who could have helped me, I felt very sad and embarrassed. It took me time to sum up the courage to ask for help and when I did, it was the beginning of a beautiful journey.


I decided in 2009 to really focus on helping myself and others to be happier. As a happiness spreader  I want to help give hope and encouragement to others in a world which at times can be full of so much negativity. I am on a mission to recruit as many happiness spreaders as I can.

Who can be a happiness spreader – Anyone can be a happiness spreader so long as you have a passion for helping others to feel good and have a reason to smile.


How you can be a happiness spreader –  Just complete the form at the end of this blog and I will send you a welcome letter and add you to the list of Happiness Spreaders. This is all done on a voluntary basis and you are free to  spread happiness in anyway you feel. I will send you the Happiness Spreader digital badge which you can also proudly display.

  • Be a beacon of hope and encourage someone
  • Do Random Acts of Kindness

Be at peace

With so much going on in the world right now, is so easy for us to get all worried not knowing what each unfold. In the midst of it, we need to try and maintain peace in our lives, by taking time throughout the day to just relax and stay focussed.

Let’s put some colour and fun into #BlueMonday

This  middle Monday  of January according to researchers is Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year which is  based on some scientific calculations which takes into account things like the weather, the fact that we are recovering from christmas,  worrying about at our debts from overspending at christmas  and now with COVID19, Lockdown and tiers.

As a happiness spreader, I really don’t like this idea of linking depression or sadness to a particular day. I want to encourage you instead to try and make it a habit of having a reason to smile each day. Start with being grateful and thankful you are alive to see another day.

Evening Routine

As you come towards the end of your day, it’s good to take time to unwind and relax to prepare our bodies and brains for a good night’s sleep.

This some of the things which I do, you can use some of the ideas and create your own which you should then try and stick to every day so that it then becomes a habit.

I tend to follow this routine 2 hours before my bedtime.

Tips on coping with the feeling of hopelessness

Right now you maybe feeling hopeless about the future. Pause and focus on this very moment. Focus on this very minute and take things moment by moment. You don’t have all the answers, You have no control over certain situations, so be gentle and kind with yourself as your wellbeing matter.

Hopelessness is a feeling, not an ultimate reality, and feelings are fleeting, Hopelessness isn’t a sign that you need to give up, it’s a sign that you need to pivot or redirect and you have it within you to do just that.

Focus on what gives you meaning and purpose by answering these questions:-

  1. How can I connect with my partner, friends, family, neighbours and colleagues?

2. What creativity-fostering hobby or interest can I pursue?

3. How can I help others who are going through challenges?

4. What fulfills me spiritually? Is it praying, meditating or spending time in nature or doing something else?

How a dream changed my life.

Their was a time in my life when i lost my reasons to smile and for 5 years I felt like a bird trapped in a cage as i struggled to cope with the after effects of divorce, redundancy, debt and having to raise two children on my own.

My life changed when one day i had a dream that as a bird trapped in cage, I saw a hand opened the cage door and I somehow changed into a eagle and could hear a voice saying to me – Go ahead and fly as high as you can, you are free.

This was such an emotional moment, and it gave me strength and courage to start a journey into happiness and wellbeing. i had the courage to reach out and asked for help and support from family members and various organstions.

Years on, I am in a better place as I have bounced back and have been able to use my experiences and lessons to help others on their journey of bouncing back from set backs and challenges.

Take time to pause and recharge #Afternoon routine

Make it a regular habit to take time out in the afternoon to just pause and reflect on how your day has gone including what you can do to make the rest of the day better. This will help you to recharge especially if your morning has not gone that well.

If you are fortunate to have a job or run your own business you should also have a lunch break for at least 20 minutes to help you recarge.

You may also want to include a short afternoon nap as part of your routine. Studies have shown that taking a 20-minute nap in the afternoon actually provides more rest than sleeping an extra 20 minutes in the morning.

How to start your day with positivity

As we start another year, remember that things won’t change this year unless we each decide to do something to make the change happen. Let’s focus on the things we can change.

Have a diary and plan your day. Start with a morning routine and include in it some of the good habits you want to bring into your life this year. Use this example and amend it to suit you. Determine also what time you will wake up each day and set your alarm. I wake up most days at 5a, during the week. but at weekends, I wake up about 8am. I am just a morning person and love the peacefulness of the early hours. Please comment below about your routine.

31 Days Gratitude Challenge

Their is a saying – the more you are grateful, the more life gives you many reasons to be grateful for. I want to encourage us all to start the year with a heart of gratitude.

Being grateful helps with your mental health

Showing gratitude has the following mental health benefits:

  1. Expressing gratitude can improve your mood.
  2. People who regularly express gratitude for the positive things in their life are shown to be happier overall, leading to lower rates of stress and depression.
  3. Showing gratitude can make you more optimist

So for the whole of January, I and challenging myself to take time to be grateful each day. I also Challenge you to share at least 3 things you are grateful for each day. You can either write them down in your gratitude book, or gratitude jar. I have also created a facebook group for us to connect and share.

Every Sunday, I will go live on the facebook group for us to dicuss things we are grateful for, and we ill then select one person each Sunday to win a selection of feel good goodies. You can join the facebook group clicking on this link

By setting you intention to be grateful for the next 31days and making the commitment to stick with it,  being grateful it will soon become part of your daily routine so that even when the challenge is over, you will  just want to keep going.

What you need to start this challenge: –

  1. Intention to be grateful each day
  2. Commitment to keep going
  3. Schedule 5 minutes each day to write down at least 3 things you are grateful for
  4. Gratitude journal or Gratitude jar
  5. Pen
  6. Pieces of paper if you are using a gratitude jar to write down the things you are grateful for, fold them and put them in your jar.
  7. Check in the group regularly to share your gratitude
  8. Connect with me on my Facebook live check in every Sunday.
