Why I volunteer to help at the YES group London #basketbrigade

Why I volunteer to  help at the bakset brigade

A few years back, I was going through major financial challenges, and even though I had family and friends who could help me, I felt very embarrassed to ask for help. I am a very postive person who tries  not let things get me down and try to make the best of whatever life throws at me, and so to the outside world I appeared to be very happy and doing my bit to help others, but behind closed doors I felt helpless.

Basket of christmas goods for us?

I remember one year, on the 23rd of December  after  i came home in the afternoon exhausted and stressed, and a few minutes alater,  someone knocked at the door and presented me with the christmas hamper.

I  was very overwhelemed, and aksed who it was from, but  they would not tell me. I siad thank you to them.  I was so happy that my ppeayers had been answered and I started to cry. I was not only able to use the food stuff to feed my children and I, but i was able to share some of items with a neighbour who i knew as also in need.

I wanted to know more.

I searched the internet as i wanted to know who it was from. I eventually found the basket brigade, read about it, amd saw the same baksets that had been deliveredon thier photo gallery.  Ever since that day I vouched to volunteer for the YES Group London Basket Brigade and help make a differemce to others. Some photos from the 2017  London YES group basket brigade.

Being part of the crewe on the day, is one of the highlight of my year, and this year I had such  a buzz helping to keep the energy level high by doing  things to make people happy, and feel good. I am so grateful to all the organisers, volunteers, supporters and donors who each year help to make it such a success.

Delivering the baskets on the day is am exciting adventure as different people react differently, and for me having being in that position, it always brings tears to my eyes that I am in good health and now  in a position to help others.

Why the basket brigade was started.

Tony Robbins  “For me, money was always out of reach as a child. It was always a source of stress because there was never enough of it. I remember having to knock on the neighbor’s door to ask for food for my brother and sister and me. Then, on Thanksgiving Day when I was 11 years old, something happened that changed my life forever. As usual, there was no food in the house, and my parents were fighting. Then I heard someone knocking at the front door. I opened it a crack and saw a man standing on the steps with grocery bags filled with enough food for a big Thanksgiving dinner. I could hardly believe it. My father always said that nobody gave a damn about anybody. But all of a sudden someone I didn’t know, who wasn’t asking for anything in return, was looking out for us. It made me think, strangers care. And I decided that I was going to find a way, somehow, someday, to give back and pay it forward.” read more here  https://anthonyrobbinsfoundation.org/programs/basket-brigades/
